Chandigarh: In another twist to the case of murderous attempt on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, his brother-in-law and senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia has urged Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav to withdraw the ongoing probe in the case from Amritsar police.
A powerful former minister during the SAD-BJP government tenure in Punjab, Majithia has allegedly expressed complete lack of faith in Amritsar Police in the ongoing probe into the ‘murderous assault’ on his leader on December 4 in the Sri Harmandir Sahib complex, Amritsar.
DGP Yadav should either himself take over the probe responsibility or assign it to the DGP rank senior Punjab IPS officer Prabodh Kumar who has proven record of loyalty to the uniform. That Prabodh Kumar could stand by the truth has been was proved in his report to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the case of Lawrence Bishnoi’s interview from jail, said Majithia in a letter to DGP Yadav.
Having said that, the senior SAD leader and brother-in-law of Sukhbir Singh Badal has also demanded registration of an FIR and arrest of Superintendent of Police Harpal Singh Randhawa and thorough probe into the latter’s alleged role and complacency in preventing the assassination bid on the SAD chief.
Majithia further alleged Amritsar Police was not only negligent in protecting the life of Badal, but senior police officials seemed to have tacitly connived and colluded with the assailant – Narayan Singh Chaura, a known ISl agent of Pakistan. Simultaneously a cover-up operation had allegedlybeen initiated by the Amritsar Police to prevent the truth from coming out.
Chaura was allowed multiple accesses to Sri Harmandir Sahib on December 3 and 4 knowing fully well that Sukhbir Singh Badal would be performing Sewa there. “There is astonishing video-graphic evidence of Narayan Singh Chaura being given a clear passage and of him being given signals by police officials present in civil dress. He is seen getting instructions on a number of occasions and making conversations with the Superintendent of Police Harpal Singh Randhawa. Videographic evidence also shows that there was not a single police personnel of the Amritsar Police near Sukhbir Singh Badal, when the assassination attempt occurred,” claimed Majithia.
The available evidence, according to the SAD leader, calls for a thorough and an impartial probe into the case.
