Jalandhar: Jalandhar Rural Police on January 22 proudly announced the arrest of a notorious “Mining King” with a history of serious criminal offences committed across Moga and Ludhiana districts. But he could evade the police net for so long and continued committing criminal activities is a question that causes eyebrows to raise!
Identified as Ravinder Singh alias Binda, resident of village Kokri Vaihiniwal of Moga district was arrested after a formal complaint. According to the police, he had been terrorising employees at the Chak Bahmania Toll Plaza on the Jalandhar-Moga stretch of the National Highway.
This shows he had been involved in this unlawful activity over a period of time, yet escaped the police eye. He was arrested only after a complaint was lodged by the area Toll Plaza manager Sonu Tomar about “repeated” incidents of armed threats, barrier breaking and forced toll evasion that caused losses worth crores to the company.
The accused would threaten employees at gunpoint to allow his vehicles to pass without payment. He operates a transport company with 13 trolleys and 5 tippers, primarily used for illegal sand transportation, said the official police release.
Police can initiate action on source based information or even the media reports, whatever be the case. Such glaring and repeated criminal activities should have invited a preventive suo moto action on part of the police. But, it seems that the police got into the action only after receiving a formal complaint, pointed out a senior officer.
Here’s more, according to the police, about the criminal past of this man locally known as “Mining King” that warranted a decisive action against him much earlier. He operates a transport company with 13 trolleys and 5 tippers, primarily used for illegal sand transportation.
Investigation has revealed that the arrested accused has 16 criminal cases registered against him across various police stations, including charges of attempt to murder, theft, criminal intimidation, and illegal weapons possession.
In the present case, he was arrested along with a .315 bore rifle and a white Fortuner vehicle (PB10-EG-9541) used in the crimes. The police registered FIR under section 125,351(3) BNS and 25/27-54-59 of the Arms Act at Police Station Shahkot, Jalandhar district.
According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, the arrest marked a significant victory in the police department’s special campaign against criminal elements, demonstrating zero tolerance for extortion and illegal activities in the region.
The arrested accused has been remanded to police custody for two days. Investigations are on regarding his financial assets and possible connections to other criminal activities, he added.
It’s good happy,
