Three stages in journey of Yog – explains Ashwini Guruji

The beginner is attracted to the physical world, wants to enjoy everything and to live to the fullest what he thinks is life. But what next?

Though the purpose of Yog is atma-sakshatkar, there are various by-products on the way to this self-realisation. Yog is an experience and not a subject of the intellect. It works on all aspects of a person: physical, vital, mental, financial, emotional, psychic and spiritual. Only when all these aspects are in a state of balance does a being experience liberation, perfect harmony.

There are three stages in the journey of Yog. The beginner is attracted to the physical world, wants to enjoy everything and to live to the fullest what he thinks is life. Sanatan Kriya says, why not? Go ahead, sail in the ocean of life, but do not drown in it. At this stage, you are required to do simple asanas, pranayam and cleansing kriyas to effect physical and etheric purifications. A by-product here is a light body, a clear and active mind, great physical and mental strength and balanced emotions.

The practices of the intermediate stage give suppleness to your limbs and your bones to prepare your body for long hours of meditation. Then your mind is prepared to control thoughts and emotions. Some asanas perfected by now include the Cobra to work on the Manipurak chakra, the shoulder stand for Vishudhi chakra and the head stand for Agya chakra. Now your digestion and evacuation are perfect. Your eyes, with the practice of Trataka, are full of charisma. All your indriyas, or sense organs, are fully under your control.

At the advanced stage, you are ready to awaken the Kundalini, or the force of Creation, which lies in a semi-dormant state in Muladhar chakra. As you have perfected Siddh asana and Ashwini and Vajroli mudras and Maha Bandh, the Guru gives you Shakti-path. You are given various mantras for various levels of evolution, introduced to the various energies controlling Creation and taught how to harmonise yourself with them. This is a level of pure bliss.
